The BAD award is located in the Netherlands and was established in 2010. From 2010 to 2013, the name of this competition was called Designers & Artist 4 Genomics Award. Beginning in 2014, officially named BAD award, the competition aims to encourage the creation of bioart and biodesign, and through this award as a platform to match artists, designers and bioscience institutions in the Netherlands. The reason why this award is called a platform for cooperation between science and art is that this competition is not a completed work, but a dialogue and collaboration between creators and scientific institutions through a selection process of three different stages. . Now this award is mainly co-sponsored by several important cultural-related institutions in the Netherlands. The institutions in charge are the art and design group Next Nature Network in Amsterdam, the Dutch Design Foundation in Andhoven, and the art center MU Hybrid. Art House and BioArt Laboratories and educational institution St Joost School of Art & Design / Master Institute of Visual Cultures.
